"If you stare at the face of the butterfly
you will miss My glory in its wings."

I had a difficult decision to make and I was up against some fairly great odds. In order to live out my life the way that I had always dreamed I had to make a decision that appeared in my mind to be inconceivable. I was overwhelmed by the problem and felt paralyzed by fear. I prayed for clarification and trusted the Lord for the answer. When I closed my eyes in prayer I saw a picture of the ugliest thing that I have ever seen, this thought came "if you magnify a butterfly face a 1000 times what does it look like?" I thought for a moment and I realized that the horrific thing that I had just been shown was the face of a butterfly. My revelation: if you stare at the face of the butterfly you will miss the glory in its wings.

I admit this seems simplistic, however, in the midst of great trials there comes a moment when we have to stop staring at the ugly "what if's" and begin to look for positive endings...which requires that we believe that there is one. It is in this mindset that I so easily connect with a leadership trait called

Appreciative Intelligence® (AQ). AQ is a construct discovered by Dr. Tojo Thatchenkery and Carolyn Metzker that calls for one to "see the mighty oak in the acorn." Without the ability to see the beauty in the ugly you will not gracefully transition from colossal failure to victorious champion.
